Facets of a Brief Collaboration
I first met Lauren Crist in early 2018. Following a recommendation, I booked the Czech model through an agency for one of my studio workshops — our first personal encounter and the beginning of a collaboration that would continue throughout that year.

By that time, Lauren already had considerable experience in front of the camera. At the beginning of her career, she had initially worked as an erotic model before increasingly focusing on photographic modeling. Successfully so: her work took her to numerous countries across Europe, establishing her as an internationally sought-after model.

That experience was immediately noticeable during our workshops. Lauren worked professionally, confidently, and flexibly in front of the camera, adapting quickly to different situations, lighting setups, and photographic ideas. Especially in a workshop environment, this kind of confidence is invaluable — it creates the freedom to concentrate on photography and light.

After our first encounter, several more studio workshops followed throughout the year. Toward the end of 2018, we finally had the opportunity to work together outside that setting. This time, we could focus entirely on our own ideas, with an emphasis on boudoir and portraits. It was a different, more personal way of working together that revealed further facets of Lauren in front of the camera.

It would, however, remain our last session together. In 2019, we were unable to find a date that worked for both of us, and eventually we lost touch.

Lauren continued her journey for some time. As far as I can tell today, she has since stepped away from professional modeling. What remains are the photographs from 2018 — memories of a brief but intensive collaboration with an experienced and versatile model who, at the time, was at home in front of cameras across Europe.

A moment that seems to belong only to her. Her gaze drifts somewhere beyond the frame, while light settles softly across skin and hands. There is intimacy without invitation, sensuality without display – as if the camera had caught a thought before it could disappear. Close enough to feel, distant enough to remain her own. – Ein Moment, der nur ihr selbst zu gehören scheint. Ihr Blick verliert sich irgendwo außerhalb des Bildes, während sich das Licht sanft über Haut und Hände legt. Da ist Intimität ohne Einladung, Sinnlichkeit ohne Inszenierung – als hätte die Kamera einen Gedanken eingefangen, bevor er verschwinden konnte. Nah genug, um ihn zu spüren, und fern genug, um ganz bei ihr zu bleiben.

Light does not reveal her. It only traces what the darkness allows – the curve of a shoulder, the line of a face, the quiet tension held within her body. Everything else is left untouched, disappearing into black. A presence defined not by what can be seen, but by what remains just beyond it. – Das Licht enthüllt sie nicht. Es zeichnet nur nach, was die Dunkelheit zulässt – die Rundung einer Schulter, die Linie des Gesichts, die leise Spannung ihres Körpers. Alles andere bleibt unberührt und verliert sich im Schwarz. Eine Präsenz, die nicht durch das Sichtbare entsteht, sondern durch das, was sich ihm entzieht.

Ein Moment zwischen Atemzug und Stille. Die Augen geschlossen, der Kopf leicht geneigt — als würde sie für einen Augenblick alles um sich herum ausblenden. Das weiche Licht gleitet über Haut und Konturen und lässt das Portrait beinahe wie eine Erinnerung wirken. Der breite Hut wird zum stillen Rahmen dieser Szene und verstärkt die ruhige, intime Atmosphäre. Nichts drängt sich auf, nichts will erklären — nur dieser eine Moment, in dem Licht, Körper und Gefühl in einer leisen Balance zusammenfinden. – A moment suspended between breath and silence. Her eyes closed, her head slightly tilted — as if she had briefly stepped away from everything around her. Soft light glides across skin and contours, giving the portrait the feeling of a memory. The wide hat becomes a quiet frame for the scene, enhancing the calm and intimate atmosphere. Nothing insists on attention, nothing tries to explain — just this single moment where light, body, and emotion find a delicate balance.

The light does not reveal her – it traces her. A shoulder, the curve of a waist, the gentle rise and fall of the body appear for a moment before dissolving again into black. There is no need to see everything. What darkness keeps for itself gives the imagination room to complete what the light has only begun. – Das Licht enthüllt sie nicht – es zeichnet sie. Eine Schulter, die Linie der Taille, das sanfte Auf und Ab des Körpers erscheinen für einen Moment, bevor sie sich wieder im Schwarz verlieren. Es ist nicht nötig, alles zu sehen. Was die Dunkelheit für sich behält, gibt der Fantasie den Raum, das zu vollenden, was das Licht nur begonnen hat.

She turns away from everything that asks to be seen. Eyes closed, her face rests at the edge of the light while the darkness slowly takes back everything around her. Nothing remains but a trace of expression, the warmth of skin and a moment that seems entirely her own. Some feelings become clearer when the world around them disappears. – Sie wendet sich ab von allem, was gesehen werden will. Die Augen geschlossen, liegt ihr Gesicht am Rand des Lichts, während die Dunkelheit langsam alles um sie herum zurücknimmt. Es bleibt nur eine Spur von Ausdruck, die Wärme der Haut und ein Moment, der ganz ihr selbst zu gehören scheint. Manche Gefühle werden deutlicher, wenn die Welt um sie herum verschwindet.

There are moments when confidence needs no audience. Eyes closed, the world seems to disappear for a second, leaving only posture, gesture and a touch of extravagance. The sweeping brim becomes almost a stage of its own – framing a moment somewhere between elegance and attitude. – Es gibt Momente, in denen Selbstbewusstsein kein Publikum braucht. Die Augen geschlossen, scheint die Welt für einen Augenblick zu verschwinden – übrig bleiben Haltung, Gestik und eine Spur Extravaganz. Die ausladende Hutkrempe wird dabei fast selbst zur Bühne und rahmt einen Moment irgendwo zwischen Eleganz und Attitüde.

„Aus einem Workshop im Studio Essen-Kettwig“ by Frank Eckgold
Im Fotostudio meines langjährigen Buddys Wolfgang F. im Essener Stadtteil Kettwig habe ich über viele Jahre hinweg Workshops veranstaltet. Oft war Wolfgang nicht nur Gastgeber, sondern auch tatkräftige Unterstützung – vor und hinter den Kulissen. Und als leidenschaftlicher Hobby-Koch sorgte er immer wieder mit viel Herzblut für das leibliche Wohl der Teilnehmer. So auch bei diesem Workshop mit dem Model Lauren Crist: In der Pause saßen wir entspannt im Garten, unterhielten uns über Licht, Bildideen und Technik – und ließen uns dabei unter anderem frisch gegrillte Würstchen schmecken. Ein typischer Moment für Behind the Scenes: authentisch, ungezwungen und einfach menschlich.

Es ist dieser stille Moment zwischen Nacht und Tag, in dem Sehnsucht wie ein leiser Duft durch den Raum zieht. Und für einen Augenblick scheint alles möglich – getragen von Wärme, Erinnerungen und einem Lächeln, das nur für ihn bestimmt ist.

Es sind diese stillen Momente am Morgen, in denen die Welt noch ein Stück weit entfernt wirkt. Ein erster Schluck, ein erster Gedanke – und irgendwo dazwischen dieses leise Ankommen im Tag. Das Licht fällt weich durch das Fenster, zeichnet Konturen und lässt Raum für Gedanken. Nichts ist eilig, nichts verlangt Aufmerksamkeit. Alles wirkt ruhig, fast schwebend. Ein Bild über diese kleinen Augenblicke, die oft unbemerkt bleiben – und genau deshalb so viel erzählen. – These are the quiet moments in the morning when the world still feels a little distant. A first sip, a first thought – and somewhere in between, that gentle arrival into the day. Soft light falls through the window, shaping contours and leaving space for thoughts. Nothing is rushed, nothing demands attention. Everything feels calm, almost weightless. An image about those small moments that often go unnoticed – and that’s exactly why they tell so much.

A soft glow emerges from the darkness, warm and restrained. It doesn’t reveal everything – it chooses carefully what to show. Lauren’s profile is shaped by this gentle light, every line defined with precision and calm. There is a sense of distance in Lauren’s gaze, as if the thoughts are somewhere just beyond the frame. The fur rests lightly on the shoulders, adding texture without taking focus. Nothing feels forced, nothing exaggerated – just a quiet presence unfolding in warm tones. Portrayed here is Lauren Crist, captured in a moment that feels both intimate and untouchable. A scene where warmth and stillness exist side by side, held in a delicate balance. – Ein sanftes Leuchten tritt aus der Dunkelheit hervor, warm und zurückhaltend. Es zeigt nicht alles – sondern wählt bewusst aus, was sichtbar wird. Laurens Profil wird von diesem Licht gezeichnet, jede Linie ruhig und präzise definiert. In Laurens Blick liegt eine leichte Distanz, als würden die Gedanken einen Moment voraus sein. Das Fell liegt leicht auf Laurens Schultern und bringt Struktur ins Bild, ohne sich in den Vordergrund zu drängen. Nichts wirkt inszeniert, nichts übertrieben – nur eine stille Präsenz in warmen Tönen. Zu sehen ist Lauren Crist, festgehalten in einem Moment, der zugleich nah und unnahbar wirkt. Eine Szene, in der Wärme und Ruhe in feiner Balance stehen.
