Natural Beauty, Experience, and a Path of Her Own
I first met Nikola, internationally better known as Nikolart, during her years as a traveling model. At the time, the Czech model regularly travelled across Europe, combining her journeys with photo shoots and creative projects with photographers in different countries.

Between 2017 and 2018, her travels also brought her to my studio several times. Our first shoots quickly developed into a collaboration that went beyond individual sessions. I eventually booked Nikola as a model for my photography workshops as well, where her experience and professionalism proved particularly valuable.

In front of the camera, Nikola works with remarkable ease and confidence. She knows her body, understands its visual impact, and needs little elaborate staging to create presence. This natural approach became an essential part of her work — a confident relationship with her own body that she continues to celebrate today under the concept of her “Natural Body.”

Most of our work together was created in the studio and reflects different facets of that period. Sometimes focused on portraits and expression, sometimes more body-oriented and reduced — always shaped by her extensive experience in front of the camera and the flexibility of a model accustomed to adapting quickly to new photographers, sets, and visual ideas.

After 2018, our photographic paths went in different directions. Nikola now lives in Prague and remains closely connected to photography. There, she is involved in a boudoir photography studio, adding another perspective to the experience she gained during her years in front of the camera.

Nikolart also continues to work as a model. She regularly publishes her own calendars and consistently embraces the same natural approach that already characterized our shoots together. Her “Natural Body” is less a photographic concept than an attitude — confident, authentic, and free from the need to conform to an artificial ideal.

This gallery looks back at our collaboration in 2017 and 2018 — shoots and workshops with an experienced traveling model who found her own path and remains closely connected to photography today.

"Contours of Presence" | Nikolart by Frank Eckgold — "Contours of Presence"
A face emerging from darkness, a shoulder catching the light, the body reduced to softly defined contours. The close framing leaves little room for distraction and turns the photograph into an intimate study of presence and form. In monochrome, light becomes almost tactile as it moves across skin, while the deeper tones gradually dissolve the figure into the surrounding darkness. – Ein Gesicht, das aus der Dunkelheit hervortritt, eine Schulter, die das Licht auffängt, ein Körper, reduziert auf sanft gezeichnete Konturen. Der enge Bildausschnitt lässt kaum Raum für Ablenkung und macht die Aufnahme zu einer intimen Studie über Präsenz und Form. In Schwarz-Weiß wirkt das Licht beinahe greifbar, während es über die Haut wandert und die tieferen Tonwerte die Figur allmählich mit der umgebenden Dunkelheit verschmelzen lassen.

Her gaze follows the light above while her body seems to emerge from the darkness below. Created on a light table, the illumination from beneath gives the legs and lower body an almost weightless glow, while the restrained light from above shapes the face, shoulders and torso. Between both sources, the body becomes a flowing study of form and contrast – delicate, sculptural and reduced to the essentials. – Ihr Blick folgt dem Licht nach oben, während der Körper aus der Dunkelheit hervorzutreten scheint. Die Aufnahme entstand auf einem Lichttisch, dessen Licht von unten besonders den Beinen und dem unteren Körper eine beinahe schwerelose Leuchtkraft verleiht, während die zurückhaltende Lichtführung von oben Gesicht, Schultern und Oberkörper modelliert. Zwischen beiden Lichtquellen wird der Körper zu einer fließenden Studie aus Form und Kontrast – fein, skulptural und auf das Wesentliche reduziert.

Standing between heavy curtains, the body is surrounded by an almost overwhelming brightness. The strong backlight strips the scene down to silhouette, contour and subtle transitions across the skin, while the dark fabric creates a natural frame around the figure. Her sideways gaze and poised stance add a moment of hesitation to the composition – as if she were standing on the threshold between darkness and light. – Zwischen schweren Vorhängen stehend, wird der Körper von beinahe überwältigendem Licht umgeben. Das starke Gegenlicht reduziert die Szene auf Silhouette, Konturen und feine Übergänge auf der Haut, während der dunkle Stoff einen natürlichen Rahmen um die Figur bildet. Ihr seitlicher Blick und die aufrechte Haltung geben der Komposition einen Moment des Innehaltens – als stünde sie auf der Schwelle zwischen Dunkelheit und Licht.

The body becomes an interplay of curves, angles and illuminated surfaces. Reduced to black and white, a narrow light traces the back, shoulders and legs while the remaining form dissolves into deep darkness. The compact pose turns the human figure into an almost graphic composition – physical and present, yet increasingly abstract. – Der Körper wird zu einem Zusammenspiel aus Kurven, Winkeln und beleuchteten Flächen. Auf Schwarz und Weiß reduziert, zeichnet eine schmale Lichtführung Rücken, Schultern und Beine nach, während die übrige Form im tiefen Schwarz verschwindet. Die kompakte Haltung verwandelt die menschliche Figur in eine beinahe grafische Komposition – körperlich und präsent und zugleich zunehmend abstrakt.

Light defines the body without revealing everything at once. Created on a light table, the illumination rises from below while a restrained light from above traces the face, shoulders and torso, giving the figure an almost sculptural presence against the deep black. The extended pose, delicate highlights and large areas of darkness turn the body into a composition of lines, curves and luminous surfaces. – Licht definiert den Körper, ohne alles auf einmal preiszugeben. Die Aufnahme entstand auf einem Lichttisch, dessen Licht von unten auf den Körper trifft, während eine zurückhaltende Lichtführung von oben Gesicht, Schultern und Oberkörper zeichnet. Vor dem tiefen Schwarz erhält die Figur dadurch eine beinahe skulpturale Präsenz. Die ausdrucksstarke Pose, feinen Lichtkanten und großen dunklen Flächen verwandeln den Körper in eine Komposition aus Linien, Kurven und leuchtenden Flächen.

After an inspiring workshop weekend in the summer of 2017, there was still room for one more idea. Czech model Nikola, known as Nikolart, had joined me for the workshops – and the opportunity for another shooting together was simply too tempting to pass up. Away from the workshop setting, we created a quieter and more intimate atmosphere: warm light, dark lace, an old leather armchair and a setting reminiscent of a private library. The result is a sensual portrait shaped as much by the elaborate surroundings as by Nikola's calm and self-contained presence. – Nach einem inspirierenden Workshop-Wochenende im Sommer 2017 blieb noch Raum für eine weitere Idee. Das tschechische Model Nikola, bekannt als Nikolart, hatte mich bei den Workshops begleitet – und die Gelegenheit für ein zusätzliches gemeinsames Shooting war einfach zu verlockend, um sie ungenutzt zu lassen. Abseits der Workshop-Situation entstand eine ruhigere und intimere Atmosphäre: warmes Licht, dunkle Spitze, ein alter Ledersessel und ein Ambiente, das an eine private Bibliothek erinnert. Das Ergebnis ist ein sinnliches Portrait, das ebenso von der aufwendigen Umgebung wie von Nikolas ruhiger, ganz in sich gekehrter Präsenz getragen wird.

With closed eyes, Nikola emerges from the darkness of the studio. The light touches only a few carefully chosen parts of her body, allowing contours to appear — and fade back into the dark. A play of reduction and intensity, where the shadow itself becomes the stage for her quiet presence. – Mit geschlossenen Augen erhebt sich Nikola aus der Schwärze des Studios. Das Licht berührt nur wenige, bewusst gesetzte Partien ihres Körpers, lässt Konturen entstehen – und wieder im Dunkel verschwinden. Ein Spiel aus Reduktion und Intensität, bei dem der Schatten selbst zur Bühne ihrer stillen Präsenz wird.

„Quiet Pause“ | Nikolart by Frank Eckgold — „Quiet Pause“
A moment of stillness, quiet and almost unnoticed. The gaze turned away, the body relaxed – as if everything pauses for a brief second. Light gently traces the contours, drawing lines across the skin while leaving much in shadow. Nothing feels staged, nothing demands attention. It is within this in-between space that the image takes shape. A silent moment, carried by closeness, calm and the strength of what remains unspoken. – Ein Moment des Innehaltens, leise und fast unbemerkt. Der Blick abgewandt, der Körper entspannt – als würde für einen Augenblick alles zur Ruhe kommen. Das Licht streift die Konturen, zeichnet Linien auf die Haut und lässt gleichzeitig vieles im Verborgenen. Nichts wirkt inszeniert, nichts drängt sich auf. Es ist dieser Zwischenraum, in dem das Bild entsteht. Ein stiller Augenblick, getragen von Nähe, Ruhe und der Kraft des Ungesagten.
