Presence, Calm, and Quiet Intensity

I met Lucy Modéle in 2020 through a recommendation. From the very first test shoot in the studio, it became clear that this collaboration would go beyond a conventional session — calm, focused, and grounded in trust.

Between 2020 and 2022, we worked together on a regular basis. Our sessions were shaped by a clear photographic approach: less staging, more presence. Lucy brings a quiet calm in front of the camera, creating space — for light, for expression, for what truly matters.

Her work is defined by restraint. Movements are reduced, gazes are clear, gestures deliberate. Within this reduction, a distinct intensity emerges — not demanding attention, but unfolding naturally.

The resulting images move between ballet, low key, and fine nude art. Some of these works also appear in The Darkness of Light and Face to Face. In this gallery, however, they stand on their own — reflecting a collaboration shaped by focus, closeness, and a visual language that has grown over time.

Sometimes, somewhere between lighting setups, creative ideas, and the actual shooting, there’s also a moment worth capturing on its own. No perfect concept, no big staging — just a genuine photo between photographer and model. This image was taken during one of my workshops about “The Art of Ballet” in winter ’21 together with Lucy Modèle. And yes… sometimes I probably should stay behind the camera. 😄 A big thank you to Volker @had_people_fotografie for capturing this moment. – Manchmal entsteht zwischen all den eigentlichen Shootings, Lichtsetups und Bildideen auch einfach ein Moment, den man festhalten muss. Kein perfektes Konzept, keine große Inszenierung – nur ein ehrliches Foto zwischen Fotograf und Model. Entstanden ist diese Aufnahme während eines meiner Workshops zum Thema „The Art of Ballet“ im Winter ’21 gemeinsam mit Lucy Modèle. Und ja… manchmal sollte man vielleicht besser hinter der Kamera bleiben. 😄 Ein großes Dankeschön an Volker @had_people_fotografie für dieses Bild.

Die verwitterte Oberfläche eines alten Personenwagons trägt die Spuren unzähliger Reisen. Abgeblätterte Farbe, raues Holz und die Patina der Jahre erzählen von Bewegung, Begegnungen und Geschichten, die längst weitergezogen sind. Davor entsteht ein stiller Moment — ruhig, nachdenklich, fast so, als würde der Blick einer Erinnerung folgen. Gerade dieser Kontrast zwischen der gelebten Geschichte des Wagons und der stillen Präsenz im Portrait verleiht dem Bild seine besondere Spannung. Ein Augenblick zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart — getragen von Struktur, Licht und einer leisen Melancholie. – The weathered surface of an old passenger wagon carries the traces of countless journeys. Peeling paint, rough wood, and the patina of time speak of movement, encounters, and stories long gone. In front of it, a quiet moment unfolds — calm and reflective, as if the gaze were following a distant memory. It is precisely this contrast between the lived history of the wagon and the quiet presence of the portrait that gives the image its tension. A moment suspended between past and present — shaped by texture, light, and a hint of melancholy.

Der Körper wird zur Bewegung, selbst im Stillstand. Arme und Beine zeichnen Linien in den Raum, als würden sie einer unsichtbaren Melodie folgen. Alles wirkt leicht, fast schwerelos — eine Momentaufnahme zwischen Spannung und Eleganz. Die reduzierte, helle Bildsprache lenkt den Blick ganz auf Form, Haltung und Rhythmus. Wie eine Skizze aus Licht und Bewegung entsteht eine Komposition, die weniger erzählt als fühlen lässt — ruhig, klar und voller Anmut. – The body becomes motion, even in stillness. „Aufstieg ins Licht“ | Lucy Modéle by Frank Eckgold — „Aufstieg ins Licht“
Mit erhobenen Armen kniet mein Model Lucy Modèle im Spiel aus Schatten und Helligkeit – als würde sie nach etwas Unsichtbarem greifen, das nur das Licht ihr offenbart. Die Dunkelheit verschluckt den Raum, doch dort, wo das Licht sie trifft, entstehen Kraft, Anmut und ein Hauch von Zerbrechlichkeit. Dieses Foto entstand während meines Workshops „Just One Flash“ und wurde den Teilnehmern als Beispiel gezeigt, wie eine bewusste Lichtsetzung nicht nur Konturen betont, sondern ganze Geschichten erzählt – voller Spannung, Ausdruck und Emotion.

Manchmal entsteht Eleganz genau dort, wo sie herausgefordert wird. Eine Haltung, die nicht selbstverständlich wirkt, ein Moment, der zwischen Kontrolle und Risiko balanciert. Der Körper formt Linien, die fast grafisch erscheinen – reduziert, klar und doch voller Spannung. Nichts wirkt zufällig, und doch bleibt eine gewisse Leichtigkeit, als würde die Schwerkraft für einen Augenblick verhandelt werden. Es ist dieses Spiel aus Kraft und Anmut, das das Bild trägt. Ein Moment, der Disziplin verlangt und zugleich mühelos erscheint. – Sometimes elegance emerges exactly where it is challenged. A pose that doesn’t feel effortless at first glance, a moment balancing between control and risk. The body creates lines that feel almost graphic – reduced, clear, yet full of tension. Nothing appears random, and still there is a sense of lightness, as if gravity itself were briefly being negotiated. It is this interplay of strength and grace that carries the image. A moment that demands discipline while appearing completely effortless.

Entstanden bei einem meiner Workshops „the art of ballet” im September '21. Das Foto diente zum Lichttest um den Teilnehmern das Lichtsetup mit den Striplights aufzuzeigen.

Die Bewegung beginnt im Inneren. Noch bevor der Körper folgt, ist sie schon da – als Ahnung, als Gefühl. Die Arme zeichnen Linien in die Luft, der Atem wird Rhythmus, der Moment dehnt sich aus. Nichts ist laut. Alles ist leicht. Ein Tanz, der nicht aufgeführt wird, sondern geträumt. – The movement begins within. Before the body follows, it is already there — as a thought, as a feeling. Arms trace lines through the air, breath becomes rhythm, the moment stretches. Nothing is loud. Everything is light. A dance not meant to be performed, but to be dreamed.

In the silence between movement and stillness, elegance reveals its true power. A lowered gaze, the gentle line of a shoulder, worn pointe shoes resting against her chest – every detail speaks of dedication, discipline, and countless hours devoted to an art form that turns effort into beauty. The interplay of light and shadow gives the scene a timeless atmosphere, while the abandoned surroundings create a striking contrast to the grace and refinement of ballet. Strength and fragility meet in a single moment, suspended somewhere between memory and dream. Created as part of my project La Beauté du Ballet. The image combines the expressive language of dance with a carefully crafted fine art approach, where atmosphere, emotion, and visual storytelling become just as important as the pose itself. – Zwischen Bewegung und Stille entfaltet Eleganz ihre ganze Kraft. Der gesenkte Blick, die feine Linie der Schulter und die getragenen Spitzenschuhe vor der Brust erzählen von Hingabe, Disziplin und unzähligen Stunden, die einer Kunstform gewidmet sind, die Anstrengung in Schönheit verwandelt. Das Zusammenspiel aus Licht und Schatten verleiht der Szene eine zeitlose Atmosphäre, während die verlassene Umgebung einen spannenden Kontrast zur Anmut und Präzision des Balletts schafft. Stärke und Zerbrechlichkeit begegnen sich in einem einzigen Augenblick – irgendwo zwischen Erinnerung und Traum. Entstanden im Rahmen meines Projekts La Beauté du Ballet. Das Foto verbindet die Ausdruckskraft des Tanzes mit einem Fine-Art-Ansatz, bei dem Atmosphäre, Emotion und visuelles Storytelling ebenso wichtig sind wie die Pose selbst.

Ich habe das Thema Ballett hier eher modern interpretiert. Und ein passendes Oberteil haben wir aufgrund der Dunkelheit im Studio nicht gefunden...

Manchmal braucht es keinen Grund. Kein Ziel. Keine Bühne. Der Körper hebt sich aus der Stille, folgt einem inneren Rhythmus, den man nicht erklären muss. Bewegung entsteht nicht aus Technik, sondern aus Gefühl. Ein Moment zwischen Leichtigkeit und Spannung. Zwischen Kontrolle und Loslassen. Nicht für ein Publikum. Nur für sich selbst. – Sometimes there is no reason needed. No destination. No stage. The body rises from stillness, following an inner rhythm that doesn’t ask for explanation. Movement is not born from technique, but from feeling. A moment between lightness and tension. Between control and release. Not meant for an audience. Just for oneself.
