Music Photography & Music Video with Grand Plaisir – a visual journey through funk and emotionSince April 2022, I’ve been working closely with the Iserlohn-based funk band Grand Plaisir, documenting their world through photography. This ongoing collaboration has opened the door to many intimate behind-the-scenes moments. From the recording studio of band leader and guitarist Stephan Köthe to a wide range of locations — and, most recently, live on stage in November 2024 — each shoot brings its own energy and tells a story of its own.
One highlight of this collaboration was the production of the music video for the song Fool Around, created in February 2023 in the band’s own studio. I was responsible not only for the complete recording, but also for the visual concept and its realization. This allowed me to capture the band’s unique energy, groove, and passion in moving images — a strong example of what professional music video production can achieve.
As a passionate photographer for musicians and bands, I don’t just document live performances. I accompany creative processes from the very first rehearsal to studio sessions and recordings. My goal is authentic, atmospheric music photography that goes beyond beautiful images — revealing personality, mood, and emotion.

The visual series combines calm, almost intimate black-and-white studio images with dynamic color photographs from rehearsals, sessions, and live concerts. Many of the images are straight out of the camera — honest, raw, unfiltered. Others are deliberately digitally altered to visually enhance the band’s vibe.

The music video for Fool Around was created in February 2023 in Grand Plaisir’s studio. I was responsible for the complete visual production — from camera work to the final edit. The goal was to capture the band’s playful energy and groove in authentic, honest images. The result is a video that makes the funk of Grand Plaisir not only audible, but truly tangible.

The video shoot was truly great! Very different from what we were used to, the filming never felt like a distraction at any point. Frank was more a part of the whole process, contributing to an atmosphere where we could play freely — just like always. Working with him was extremely pleasant, and the result speaks for itself.

I really don’t like cameras at all. No exceptions. But with Frank, it was different. During the shoot, I barely noticed him — he felt more like a listener and observer than a cameraman. Most importantly, we developed and realized the concept together. No stress, no rush.
