An encounter that lingers
I met Anna in 2008. She came to the studio for her first test shoot at the age of seventeen — curious, open, and with a quiet self-assurance in front of the camera. From that initial meeting, something more than a single shoot began to take shape.
Until 2010, numerous sessions followed. Personal projects as well as commercial work. The collaboration grew over time, shaped by trust and a shared sensitivity for the moment. Anna’s presence was subtle, often restrained — and that was exactly her strength.

In 2010, our paths separated. Without a clear ending, without a farewell. The contact simply faded.
Many years later, Anna reached out again. A message from Australia, where she now lives with her family. A quiet echo from afar — and a reminder of how long images and encounters can resonate.
Some of these works are also part of Face to Face — a quiet trace of a shared time.

„Almost a Thought“
Ein Blick, der schon unterwegs ist,
bevor er ankommt.
Zwischen Lächeln und Idee
liegt dieser kleine Moment,
in dem alles offen bleibt.
Warm, ruhig, unaufdringlich.
Kein Statement.
Nur Gefühl.

A gaze already moving
before it arrives.
Between a smile and an idea
there’s this brief moment
where everything stays open.
Warm.
Quiet.
Unforced.
No statement.
Just feeling.
„Almost Invisible“
Manchmal entsteht ein Bild genau dort, wo Details beginnen zu verschwinden. Linien lösen sich auf, Konturen werden weich – und übrig bleibt nur das, was wirklich trägt: der Blick.
Das Licht nimmt mehr, als es zeigt. Es reduziert das Gesicht auf Fragmente, lässt Raum für Interpretation und verstärkt genau dadurch die Wirkung.
Ein Moment zwischen Sichtbarkeit und Auflösung – leise, reduziert und gerade deshalb so präsent.

Sometimes an image is created exactly where details begin to fade. Lines dissolve, contours soften – and what remains is only what truly matters: the gaze.
The light takes more than it reveals. It reduces the face to fragments, leaving space for interpretation and, in doing so, intensifying its impact.
A moment between visibility and dissolution – quiet, minimal and therefore deeply present.
„Close Enough to Feel“
Manchmal verschwindet alles um ein Gesicht herum. Kein Raum, kein Kontext – nur Nähe, die so intensiv wird, dass sie fast greifbar scheint.
Der Blick hält fest, lässt keinen schnellen Ausweg zu. Jede Nuance wird sichtbar, jede kleine Regung bekommt Gewicht. Es ist diese kompromisslose Nähe, die das Bild trägt.
Ein Moment, der nicht erzählt, sondern direkt wirkt – unmittelbar, ruhig und doch voller Spannung.

Sometimes everything around a face disappears. No space, no context – just a closeness so intense it almost becomes tangible.
The gaze holds you, leaving no easy escape. Every nuance becomes visible, every subtle expression gains weight. It is this uncompromising closeness that carries the image.
A moment that doesn’t explain, but speaks directly – immediate, calm and full of tension.
„Eyes That Stay“
Dieses Beauty-Portrait entstand im Winter 2008 und gehört zu einer Reihe von Close-ups, die mich über viele Jahre begleitet haben. Auch wenn sich meine fotografischen Schwerpunkte im Laufe der Zeit erweitert haben, bleibt eines unverändert: die Faszination für ein gutes Close-up – besonders dann, wenn der Blick das Bild trägt.
Augen erzählen ihre eigenen Geschichten. Leise, aber eindringlich. Sie ziehen den Betrachter hinein, halten ihn fest und lassen kaum Raum für Distanz. Genau darin liegt die Kraft dieses Bildes: reduziert auf Ausdruck, Nähe und einen Moment kompromissloser Präsenz.
Während ich diese Zeilen schreibe, wird mir bewusst, wie lange mein letztes klassisches Beauty-Shooting bereits zurückliegt. Anna lebt inzwischen seit vielen Jahren in Australien – neue Wege, ein neues Leben.
Und ich? Ich merke: Es wird höchste Zeit, wieder einmal ein Paar ausdrucksstarke Augen vor die Kamera zu bekommen.

This beauty portrait was created in the winter of 2008 and is part of a series of close-ups that accompanied my work for many years. Even though my photographic focus has expanded over time, one thing has never changed: the fascination of a strong close-up – especially when the gaze carries the entire image.
Eyes tell their own stories. Quiet, yet compelling. They draw the viewer in, holding the gaze and leaving little room for distance. That is exactly the strength of this image: reduced to expression, closeness, and a moment of uncompromising presence.
As I write these lines, I realize how long it has been since my last classic beauty shooting. Anna has been living in Australia for many years now – new paths, a new life.
And me? I find myself thinking: it might be time to bring a pair of expressive eyes back in front of my camera.

Der Blick bleibt ruhig,
die Energie gesammelt.
Ein Moment voller Kontrolle,
in dem nichts nach außen drängt.
Alles ist da,
aber noch zurückgehalten.
Spannung als Zustand,
nicht als Geste.

energy gathered inward.
A moment shaped by control,
where nothing presses outward.
Everything is present,
yet deliberately held back.
Tension as a state,
not a gesture.

Die Bewegung übernimmt,
der Ausdruck wird offener.
Der Körper folgt einem inneren Impuls,
nicht einer Pose.
Nichts wird festgehalten,
nichts verteidigt.
Ein Moment,
in dem Veränderung sichtbar wird,
ohne laut zu sein.

Movement takes over,
the expression opens.
The body follows an inner impulse,
not a pose.
Nothing is restrained,
nothing defended.
A moment where change becomes visible,
without needing to be loud.

Dieses Bild ist eine bewusste Studioaufnahme.
Der Hintergrund und die Spiegelung in der Brille sind komponiert,
retuschiert, eingefügt –
nicht als Trick, sondern als Entscheidung.
Ein urbaner Traum im Blick,
Licht, das nicht dokumentiert, sondern erzählt.
Zwischen Realität und Projektion
entsteht ein Moment,
der mehr über Haltung sagt
als über den Ort selbst.
Inszeniert.
Und genau deshalb wahrhaftig.
